The American Board of Group Psychology (ABGP) is a member board of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), which oversees the standards and operations of its member boards. The ABGP is responsible for establishing criteria related to the definition, education, training, competencies, and examination required for certification as a specialist in group psychology.
The ABGP is governed by members who are board certified in group psychology and who represent the specialty on a national level.
Board certification assures the public and the profession that a group psychology specialist has successfully completed the education, training, and experience requirements of the specialty, including an examination designed to assess the competencies required to provide quality services in group psychology.
Specialties, by definition, represent advanced levels of practice that include doctoral and postdoctoral preparation.
