Dennis Doverspike, PhD, ABPP
As President, I would like to welcome you to the ABOBCP section of the ABPP website. I am glad you are considering becoming a candidate for recognition as a specialist aligned with the ABOBCP Board. We are excited about the future of our specialty and hope you choose to apply.
ABPP has been certifying Industrial/Organizational (I/O) psychologist specialists for over 50 years. However, due to low demand, the I/O board of the ABPP was dissolved and replaced with a restructured specialty and specialty board, the American Board of Organizational and Business Consulting Psychology (ABOBCP),a member board of the ABPP. This new board welcomes applicants from Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Human Factor Psychology, and Consulting Psychology, including Psychologists involved in organizational coaching.
The Organizational and Business Consulting Psychology specialty is defined as the practice of psychology applied to organizations, especially consultation in business settings. The Specialty is a hybrid, composed of traditional industrial/organizational psychologists and consulting psychologists. The former are primarily members of APA Division 14, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), the latter are typically members of APA Division 13
The primary mode of practice is that of consulting on organizational issues or the coaching of individuals with regard to career or job performance issues. Clients are typically individuals in a work setting or employing organizations, which may include nonprofits, public jurisdictions and private sector companies.
