Description: This intermediate workshop presents an updated version of problem-solving therapy (PST), an evidenced-based intervention shown to be effective for a wide range of psychological disorders and problems, age groups, and diverse populations. In addition to learning the conceptual and empirical background of this approach, participants learn, via demonstrations and role plays, how to conduct PST as a means of fostering resilience and coping ability to overcome the negative effects of various types of stressors. The three populations of special focus for this workshop are depressed medical patients, recently returning veterans/military service members, and individuals at high risk for suicide.
